Methods of communication
"I don't want to artificially bring or impose anything, but I know that I will find a way to be helpful to some people or to creatively rethink the spaces and environments I encounter. I will create a situation for exploration or play to facilitate the experience and interaction of participants."

song lim

visual artist

artist-in-residence

Empty Time: Naturally Ironic
"My work focuses on reshaping the idea of "empty time" through an ironic use of the everyday and natural elements. This creates a calm energy that holds potential for the future. Through project, past and present are intertwined to reflect and interrupt our perception."

caterina birds

music and movement artist / performance

artist-in-residence

turn the wheel
A musical and dance-based exploration of past and present work processes, everyday routines and natural cycles. Repetition, routine, cycle___________Pause, interruption and emptiness.
Caterina Vögel (catl.) researches and experiments with voice, body and loop station.

timothy hammer

sculpture and media art

artist-in-residence

"The aim of my residency is to create a work that lies somewhere between sculpture, installation and digital art. I want to be guided by the place where I live in the high valley and the people I meet there, and use both traditional and new technical working methods. What the result will look like in the end will be determined by the emptiness."

fabian schäfer

multimedia artist

artist-in-residence

Symbiogenesis
"My artistic work explores the sculptural quality of organic and ecological materials, as well as the nature of structures and surfaces. The starting point is a morphological view of the biodiversity of nature. The changes and time traces of landscapes and forests in the advancing Anthropocene are unmanageable processes that influence the approach of my artistic work, a work on the memory of nature."

francis grill

photographer

artist-in-residence

"nothingness"

Emptiness as a pool of infinite (non-)possibilities. How much emptiness remains when a person completely surrenders to it? The paradox of the fullness of nothingness is examined and visualized with the help of an analogue photo series.

iris weigel

transdisciplinary artists:in

artist-in-residence

"As part of medienfrische, I would like to explore the location and structure of the artists' residency and explore how peaceful coexistence in connection with nature and fellow human beings can succeed. In doing so, I will examine the concept of emptiness in connection with the creative process. Texts and artistic compositions can be created from found materials"

jana straßer

photography and sculpture

artist-in-residence

Investigations into the themes of time, light and space. The medium for this are long-term exposures on fabric with UV light, which then become sculptures.

josef jöchl

comedian and author

artist-in-residence

"I would like to continue working on my third solo program at medienfrische. In it, I will deal with the topic of memory, especially my own. Because I was born in Tyrol, the mountains should help me with this."

mara printz

visual artist

artist-in-residence

The transition between wakefulness and sleep, a fog that rises, a trance-like intermediate state. A void in the universe, isolated flashes of light, figures of transition. The concepts of liminality and rituals as coordinates.

adina camhy & maria lisa pichler

multimedia artist, filmmaker, musician & film editor, documentary film director

artists-in-residence

Leere Zeit is an experimental audio piece - inspired by Elfriede Jelinek's documentary film "Raumsau am Dachstein", among others. What does a valley between isolation, emigration and day tourism sound like in a present in which the speed of social change is sometimes overwhelming? What sounds and voices bubble beneath the surface?
The audio piece, which will be created as a playful process, is the first artistic collaboration between Camhy and Pichler.

mateusz gawrysiak

visual artist

artist-in-residence

"Time and space again is a project about alternative measurement systems in an unconstrained experimental environment. By taking a closer look at different ways time and space can be measured I intend to discover and challenge concepts related to free time and its nonlinear nature."

olga wardega & christoph zeckel

audio and visual artists

artists-in-residence

Olga and Christoph come to the residency in search of what makes up the perfect nap, by inviting participants to join them in researching and documenting what location, position or activity makes for a good rest. But this time they have decided to add a twist to their usual practice by swapping their usual role of sound and visual artist and each working with the other's medium.

june 8 - june 23

alexandra grübler | baal & mortimer

musician and composer

artist-in-residence

Seams and towers, a piece of mountain scores, polyphonic singing and field recordings, which deals with alchemy and emptiness. Diagrams drawn on site form the basis and notation, time and body turn emptiness into fullness - at the seams of being, at the towers of the mountains.

anna schuierer

illustrator, eco-social designer

artist-in-residence

Creation of a subjective map of the Bschlabertal based on the interactions and encounters with the landscape and the people from the mountain valley.

bianca kobori belck & eike buff

scenographers and media artists

Happy Dolcefarniente to all
"When we're out walking in the big, wide world, it often feels like we're wasting time - after all, in the capitalist mode of production, "time is money". From our privileged ivory tower, we don't want to complain, so we're announcing: There's a new service in the village. We offer time exchange - our supposedly empty time for your (house) work."

david fisslthaler

photographer and media artist

artist-in-residence

Moon Strike is a photo series that deals with the depiction of time and movement. Ultra-long exposures (around eight hours per shot) are used to depict the path of celestial bodies in the night sky. The aim of the series is to develop a methodology for recording entire "moon phases" - i.e. the full course of the moon in the night sky. Subsequently, the series will be adapted to capture the path of the sun in the sky during the day.

divleena singh

artistic design / lightweight experimental sculpture

artist-in-residence

A conceptual lightweight sculpture constructed using a combination of tension and compression materials. It would enclose 'empty space' and would feel ethereal. It is open to speculation whether such structures are an art form or a practical building method.

johan f karlsson

visual artist

artist-in-residence

Farewell Piece (Ascending Peaks Evoke Fading Thoughts)

"I will present a slow-paced performance inspired by the surrounding landscape. It will resemble an endurance act involving a slow walk up and over a steep slope, proceeding straightforwardly and without any climactic moment. The work aims to convey that what may seem like an insignificant act is, in fact, an action that prompts reflections on letting go and emptying oneself into the landscape to ultimately disappear, to the other side."

jonas blume

media artist

artist-in-residence

The Spitzkopf towers lonely above Bschlabs. It is steep, inaccessible and hardly known outside the valley. The project explores the terrain and the significance of the omnipresent mountain for the village and its people.

juliane fink

designer

artist-in-residence

Shine, shine, shine. 14x daydream

"My project is a tribute to doing nothing, daydreaming and time that is not focused on a goal. 14x daydreaming means lying in the sun, letting your mind wander and being unproductive - developing a routine for doing nothing. In the meantime, the sun does the work: a print develops on a sheet previously prepared with UV-sensitive inks, depicting the imprints of your own body, the things you have brought with you or blades of grass, without disturbing your own rest, virtually in your sleep. The result is objects in which no two are alike and which are created as if in a dream: colorful, disordered, unpredictable."

kalin mihov

interdisciplinary artist with focus on video art, land art and site-specific installation

artist-in-residence

Kalin Mihov's proposal is for an act, a performance with the rural landscape, opening a dialog with local narratives of the abandoned and the forgotten. By using simple repetitive motions referring to archaic and obsolete field work taken out of place, context and time the artist asks how in a modern context we evaluate our actions, what is the benefit of the artistic act and how it fits into the concept of labor today.

katja striedelmeyer

media artist

artist-in-residence

What grows on, around, in, on and next to the abandoned places in the Bschlabertal? Using documentary means, a diverse collection is created that tells the story of the Bschlabertal from a perspective that is both old and new. The Herbarium of Empty Time brings together mosses, lichens, grasses and ferns as witnesses and actors of change and revival.

louis frehring

visual & media art

artist-in-residence

Scrolling yoga (temporary title)

Focusing on the ubiquitous gesture of scrolling, often associated with excessive consumption and addiction, Scrolling yoga aims to juxtapose this behavior born in the hypermodernity with the serene backdrop of rural Bschlabertal. The project will explore how the digital technologies changed our relation to time and our surrounding.
